New Student Week Begins September 9
It is with excitement that we share this year's New Student Week (NSW) Web site, which includes a complete schedule of events.
Please be advised that New Student Week is September 9 through 13, during which time your office may experience higher than “normal” walk-in traffic and/or phone calls from both students and parents.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
In addition to the more “structured” events already included on the schedule, there are several other ways for you to participate in NSW:
1) Welcome Tent: You are invited to represent your office or department at the Welcome Tent, September 9 on the Bald Spot from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the first stop for new students and their families and we'd love for you to showcase what you do for students and help welcome them to Carleton. To register, or for more information, please contact the Campus Activities Office by calling x4462. Registration deadline is August 29.
2) New Student Welcome Bags: If your area has a flier/give-away you would like new students to receive, please deliver 550 to the Campus Activities Office by Friday, August 29 at noon.
3) Interact Socially: There are many ways for you to meet and interact with students during New Student Week. Listed below are a few possibilities, or you can visit the Web site for complete details.

3:15 to 6 p.m.—STAND IN IT WITH ME: CARLETON, Skinner Memorial Chapel
Stand In It with Me: Carleton is a fast-paced and bold theatrical performance that addresses important issues related to campus life, college culture, academic experiences, diversity, inclusiveness, changing communities, and how we are all affected by the many experiences and perspectives we interact with as college students each day. The performance is based on information and interviews collected by students, faculty, and administration from our own campus. Infusing a multitude of improvisation and performance art models, this piece has something for every learning style including human sculptures, scenes, poetry, and more. The performance, performed by “Exposed Brick Theatre,” is designed to fuel dialog related to the expectations, anticipations, and realities of the first-year experience.

Saturday, September 12Noon—COOKOUT WITH LIVE MUSIC FROM STORYHILL, fields near Stadium
Head to the stadium for a cookout, the first home football game of the season, inflatable “bouncy” games, food, beverage, and live music from Storyhill. Visit the Storyhill Web site for music samples. Meal cost is $8.75 per person (cash, check, or Schillers accepted). Please join Residential Life and Facilities in celebrating the retirements of Dan and Linda Stadler. Together they have dedicated 62 years to Carleton College. Dan has spent the last 27 years in Facilities, while Linda has worked the last 18 years in Residential Life. The open house will be held Wednesday, August 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Upper Sayles-Hill. All faculty and staff are invited to come to wish them the best on their retirement!
Lower Lyman Lake Restoration
What happened to the Lake? Wednesday, August 12, work began on the Lower Lyman Lake/island shoreline restoration project. The first step was to drain the lake. Then the shoreline will be re-established with erosion control materials, planted, and back filled with soil. We expect to replug the dam and return to full depth of water by the time students arrive on campus. If you have any questions about this project, please call x4137.
Seal Coat Sweeping
The road/parking areas that were recently seal coated will be swept on Tuesday, August 25. Beginning at 8 a.m., the crew will start on the main campus drive (College Street extension into campus) to be followed by the Arb lot and the Stadium drive. The lots will be posted for no parking, and opened up as soon as they are swept. Roads will remain open but circulation may have short periods of delay. The parking stalls, pedestrian crossings, and other markings will be painted sometime after the sweeping, but that work is not scheduled at this time.
Currently@Carleton Returns to Weekly Publication
With the beginning of Fall Term around the corner, Currently@Carleton will begin it's weekly publication schedule, beginning with the September 7 issue. Please remember that the deadline for submission of articles is Wednesdays by 5 p.m.
