Carleton College held a dedication ceremony for a new 1.65 megawatt wind turbine at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, at the wind turbine site. The turbine is located 1.5 miles east of the Carleton College campus on Wall Street Road.

Carleton purchased and constructed the $1.8 million wind turbine as part of the College’s commitment to producing green energy. The energy produced, which is equivalent to about 40 percent of Carleton’s energy usage or the energy required to power about 600 homes, will be sold to Xcel Energy.

Construction of the wind turbine started in August and was complete September 16. The three 132-foot blades arrived on Thursday, August 26, and the tower was constructed on Saturday, August 28 and Monday, August 30.
